Kamakura Era is an SAMURAI Era (Bushi Era). BAKUFU (The Samurai Goverment) has very close relationship with relegion and hence many Temples and Shirines build during Kamakura era. Each temple and shrine has unique history closely related to key Samurai who made the history milestone.
You can find more than 150 temple and shrine in Kamakura area, which is dense enough or more compared to KYOTO.
We will show you highlights with key interests.

ZEN GARDEN ORIGIN
Zuisenji Temple
Zuisenji Temple is located in very recess in a a valley. Pass through "DAITO-NO-MIYA" temple, you need to walk further to your right. After pass through main gate, the atmosphere is very different. Zusenji has one of oldest ZEN (shoin style) garden and it is famous that this garden is the origin.

THE LARGET WOODEN KAN-NON STATUE IN JAPAN
HASE DERA (HASE KAN-NON)
SUMMARY:
HASE DERA has "HASE KAN-NON" as a principal objects of worship. "HASE KAN-NON" is really huge. Her height is 9.18 meters and one of the LARGEST in Japan. Also note that she is made of one gigantic wood, which is unbelievable.
HASE DERA is ONE OF OLDEST temple in Kamakura which is build on AD 736.
Also famous as a beautiful garden. In June, you will see full of AJISAI. But it is very beautiful in other season with seasonal flowers.

THE OLDESEST TEMPLE IN KAMAKURA
SUGIMOTO TERA
SUMMARY:
SUGIMOTO DERA is famous for is history. It had build in 734 AD which was in NARA Era. Or 500 years before Kamakura era. This is old enough as those temples you can find in Nara city. (Unfortunately, No Deers.)
As you see from the main gate, you will easily see the history. Main hall is a thatched roof. (Made with Straw) Principal image is 11 Face KAN-NON
Location: Nikaido (North east from Kamakura St. 10 min by Bus. Drop off at "Sugimoto Kan-Non" or 25 min walk.
