ZENIARAI BENTEN

ZENIARAI BENTEN Main Gate

Summary:

ZENI ARAI BENTEN is famous with its unique feature. This shrine is build with respect to BENTEN SAMA (one of SEVEN LUCKY GOD). Next the main hall, there is a small cave with small fountain.

Location: 15 min walk from Kamakura St. (West exit, where clock tower is).

It is believed that after showing respect to BENTEN SAMA at main hall, he/she visit this cave and "Wash bills and coins" then, that money will play a priming water role and your money will be double, triple....

Should you use the money that you wash? Or keep in your wallet? There are 2 groups. Both supposed to be the right answer. But my recommendation is to keep half of them with you and user other half.

Photo: Inside of the cave. Make sure you visit main hall, otherwise BENTEN SAMA will consider you are impolite.

Main hall

DO you know how to pray/show respect in Shrine? "NI REI - NI HAI - ICHI REI" is the correct way.

"NI REI": REI is so called "OJIGI" in japanse. "BOWing " is the English. "NI " is "2" (TWO). SO you do bow 2 times, deeply. Before you pray, first show respect.

"NI HAI": "HAI" here is not "YES!!". "HAI" if written in KANJI, it stands for "CLAP YOUR HAND". Thus, next step is to CLAP your hands 2 times.

The last step is "ICHI REI". "ICHI" is "1"(ONE). Now you see. End pray with "BOW".

Do not forget to throw coins in the box. (SAISEN BAKO - wooden box) and ring the bell by pulling big rope.

If you pass through the main gate, you will enter a tunnel. When you are out from the tunnel, you will see many gates. Similar scenery can be found in KYOTO, but you see in here as well.
